Please, briefly describe the CBC activity you wanted to pursue

The Danish Council for Independent Research is a member of the European Science Foundation (ESF) and has for years participated in the ESF’s EUROCORES program consisting of a number of large and often multidisciplinary efforts in which the research itself and now also the coordination of the program is funded by the participating member organizations. The programe is currently under review due to the forthcoming merger of the European Science Foundation and EUROHORCs.

The current EUROCORES program involves, in brief, joint calls and selection of proposals for new research at European level, after which common calls and international evaluation of applications are made. Formally, grant powers and funding remains at national level. The participating research councils therefore decide for themselves what specific EUROCORES they want to participate in and co-finance. A EUROCORES Program is launched only if adequate funding is obtained from the participating national research councils.
