Based on an agreement between the Governments of the Federal Republic of Germany and the Republic of Poland concerning cooperation between police authorities and Border Police Authorities in Border Areas of 18 February 2002 (German-Polish Police Agreement), there has been established a good working relationship between the police forces of Brandenburg and the Polish police force, in particular from the Voivodships of Szczecin, Gorzow and Wroclaw. In order to coordinate German-Polish police cooperation, the police force of the Federal Land of Brandenburg created the post of Commissioner for German-Polish Relations as an independent organisational unit which is available 24/7 as a contact for the Polish authorities.

In accordance with the agreement, in the German-Polish border region, crime prevention measures have been implemented that are focused on the organisation of joint patrols as an integral part of the direct cooperation between police stations and district headquarters. These joint patrols are deployed at special events such as folk festivals and major events in a bid to prevent administrative offences and criminal offences that can be classified specifically as mass criminality.  In 2010, a total of 130 patrols were deployed.  Joint bicycle patrols were also organised in 2010 as a special kind of patrol during the warmer months. In order to prepare and evaluate police operations and to provide advanced training, specialist conferences and work conferences are conducted at regular intervals.

On 21 September 2010, the second specialist conference on border criminality was held. It was attended by representatives of the Polish police force from the border headquarters, representatives of the Polish Police Headquarters in Warsaw, representatives of the Federal Criminal Police Office and representatives of the public prosecutor’s office in Frankfurt (Oder).  At this conference fifty experts had the opportunity to exchange experiences regarding motor vehicle theft and its prevention.Situation reports are exchanged every two weeks or once a month for special events and criminal offences involving the cross border issues involving German and Polish offenders. Information is exchanged between German and Polish authorities regarding the situation and suspects
