Please, briefly describe the CBC activity you wanted to pursue

The mobility and transport of goods across borders is one of the responsibilities of GNP-EGTC which aims to improve cross border cooperation on the heavily used Irun-Portugal road corridor. At its implementation consultants were hired to create a cross-border transportation Guide for Galicia-North Portugal. The aim of the guide is to create a publically available information platform outlining the different interregional and border public transport networks between the regions of Galicia and North Portugal. The GNP-EGTC has also organized a seminar to clarify the information on tolls (“SCUT”) in Portugal, particularly in North Portugal.

This meeting was attended by members of the Xunta de Galicia, CCDR-N and the business community from both sides of the border. In the case of EuroACE, access to the Atlantic coastline is an advantage. The region is well endowed with a transport infrastructure but there is a lack of cross border public transport and connections with main European routes.
One aim is to include this road network in the TEN-T (Trans-European Transport Network). Additionally there is a need for improvements of connections between the Sines port and Extremadura. Work is currently underway for improvements of the IP8 moterway which links Sines to Vila Verde de Ficalho and the construction of another motorway linking Plasencia and the port of Sines.

With regards to the intervention of EuroAAA there is a good roadway connection and the Program INTERREG III A, that has allowed the implementation of the project HUBAAL I and II. This resulted in a significant improvement of the road network on both sides of the border which has significantly improved access to the the motorway. One objective was to improve access to roads and bridges over the Guadiana River in the Sanlucar and de Guadiana Alcoutim regions, and to Chança Paymogo-San Marcos in the following cities: Serpa, Mértola, Alcoutim, Castro Marim, Tavira and Huelva.
