Crisis and disaster/emergency management cooperation agreements (Croatia, Slovenia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Montenegro, Hungary and Serbia)

– facilitation in providing international assistance in case of disasters;

– exchange of scientific data and organization of meetings, research programs, expert seminars and exercises for relief operations in the respective territories of the signatories

– exchange of information on threats and damages that may arise and affect the territory of the other Contracting Party. Mutual exchange of information also includes the transfer of established measurement values.

– cooperation in the field of education in the form of expert meetings, through participation at expert seminars or exchange of experts

The annual meetings of the Permanent Joint Committees established pursuant to the provisions of the agreements are held annually. Bilateral Permanent Joint Committees consist of representatives of the National Protection and Rescue Directorate of the Republic of Croatia and the responsible agency of the other signatory State. Their primary role is to define annual programs of joint activities. Most activities are aimed at the prevention of disasters.

An important form of joint cooperation are exercises, since they enable a timely and efficient response in case of disasters. The Republic of Croatia was a host of some bilateral and multilateral exercises with regional participation, and also Croatian rescuers participate in similar exercises that take place in neighboring countries.

It should also be stressed that bilateral agreements enable Croatian aerial firefighting forces to intervene in the case of wildfires in the neighboring states (especially in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro).
