What was the identified solution? The GNP-EGTC fosters one-to-one cross border collaborations among neighboring small towns located in different countres by sharing solutions to problems faced by both both communities.We have already promoted joint cooperation between:

  1. Lalín (Galicia) and Cabeceiras de Basto (North Portugal) focused on tourism, local gastronomy, enology, agriculture and animal husbandry.
  2. Vizela (North Portugal) and Caldas de Reis (Galicia) developing collaborations on promoting natural thermal springs, regional culture, and the the Camino of Santiago in Portugal.
  3. Eurocity Tui (Galicia) and Valença (North Portugal), focused on developing a shared infrastructure resulting in a more efficient use of resources and equipment.
  4. Salvaterra (Galicia) and Monçao (North Portugal), fostering their shared historical and environmental heritage and local wine industry.
  5. Caminha (North Portugal) and A Guarda (Galicia) developing initiatives related to the Miño river, which separates the two towns border, for the use of the river for economical, environmental and social purposes.
How was the solution identified? It began as an initiative of the GNP-EGCT. The success of the initiative is proves that there is a real need of external technical assistance to develop cross border collaborations between small towns.
Who was/were the main actor/s responsible for its identification? The GNP-EGTC along with previously mentioned towns.
How was the solution implemented? By whom? By the GNP-EGTC in collaboration with previously mentioned towns
How long did it take for the solution to be implemented? The first local cooperation project was initiated in 2011. Since them, other initiatives have been started. The work of the GNP-EGTC on these initiatives is ongoing.
Did it have a positive impact on the overall level of CBC in the area? Yes, it has improved local CBC and brought positive effects to the towns involved, such as European community funding for common projects.
