The region of interest lies on the South-Western border of Hungary and North-Eastern border of Croatia. Here the two countries are separated by the River Drava which forms the majority of the common border. On the Croatian side, in addition to border counties of Međjimurska, Koprivničko-Križevačka, Virovitičko-Podravska and Osječko-Baranjska – four other counties expressed their interest to participate in the present Programme with Hungary.
In addition to the NUTS III level regions along land borders between Hungary and Croatia, the following four NUTS III level regions will participate in the bilateral Task Force of the Programme: the Counties of Varaždinska, Bjelovarskobilogorska, Požesko-slavonska and Vukovarsko-srijemska. The Hungary-Croatia IPA Incorporating the adjacent regions will result in a single programming space with very similar geographic, demographic and economic characteristics.- 2012
